Chimney Repair
Is your chimney no longer drawing as well as it used to? Has it never drawn well?
Chimneys need to be cleaned often, at least once a year, to remove built up creosote which is a fire hazard and reduces the area through which smoke can flow which in turn causes more build up.
Smoke is tiny droplets of tar which has been cooked out of the wood and carried up your chimney on the hot air. The longer the smoke stays in your chimney the cooler it gets until it finally deposits that tar droplet on the walls of your chimney as creosote. Creosote is flammable and can be ignited causing a chimney fire, it also easily adheres to other droplets of tar causing a thicker layer of creosote through smoke must now pass. Cleaning your chimney on a regular basis doesn't prohibit creosote from forming but it does reduce the risk of a chimney fire.
The construction, types of material used in construction, location and height of your chimney can all affect how well smoke flow through and out of your chimney. An inspection of your chimney can help to determine a solution to your drafting issues so that you can continue to enjoy your fireplace.
